SeaTech Solutions International (SSI) has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) for two next-generation 80m tanker designs, marking an important milestone in the development of future-ready vessels that support the evolving needs of the maritime industry.
The approved designs comprise an 80m Oil Tanker and an 80m Oil/Chemical Tanker, developed to meet the growing demand for flexible and efficient coastal transportation of conventional and lower-carbon fuels, including methanol and B100 biofuel. The vessel concepts are designed to support regional energy logistics while enabling greater adaptability as the industry transitions towards alternative fuels.
Developed with a focus on operational efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance, both vessel designs have been engineered in accordance with the applicable classification rules and industry standards. Each design has a length overall of 80.0 meters, a breadth of 15.0 meters, a depth of 6.9 meters and a summer draft of 4.2 meters. The vessels are designed for a cruising speed of 8.5 knots and a maximum speed of 10 knots, and are intended for Australian coastal operations. The AiP confirms the technical feasibility of the concepts and represents a significant step towards their future development and commercial deployment.
As the maritime sector continues to accelerate its decarbonisation efforts, innovative vessel designs will play an increasingly important role in supporting emerging fuel supply chains and enabling the safe transportation of cleaner energy solutions.
SSI extends its appreciation to Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore for its continued collaboration and support throughout the approval process. The achievement reinforces SSI's commitment to delivering innovative, practical, and sustainable vessel designs that address the evolving needs of the global maritime industry.
